Search Engine Optimization – Lesson 1

To say about the SEO (Search Engine Optimization) it will be easier if i explain you about the SEO elite free lessons. Before starting about SEO elite let’s set the goal straight ahead. Everything you can learn it for free. It does not mean that you do it in this way. I have spent more than $500 on programming to learn more and results are not fully completed. In the current SEO world there are N number of software programs which nothing makes you learn by taking lots of days, weeks and years to do it manually. These programs will not make you get rich soon but it will give you tips to get rich quick and (not like me).

I will show you the free software programs which i use to make money out. And keep it in mind that free ones are really free but the maker will give you the limited versions and they will upgrade you to the deluxe version for a price.

Lets start the SEO lesson 1..

You may have created a new website and may be submitted your site to some of the search engines and hoped to get the results in search pages. After some weeks you will get little traffic to your site and again you will try to optimize to get more visitors and after another some weeks gone, your results were no visitors… no traffic… and no revenue… what a waste of time.

At this time, you will think that this website will not workout. You will decide to  try another website with different topics to get more traffic and to earn more money. But at the end the results are same. These steps were done once till 2000′s but now these will not workout.

I will show you the simple and best steps, you must do it when starting a new website. It does not matter, whatever may be the topics.

While reading the article, you will come to know that you will not get theories much. I like to show you the visual appearance, the real life examples with screenshots and simple steps which you can learn easily. So if you love to learn with the visual person. Just continue reading the blog.

In our example, let begin the website with the topic “weight loss”. Before you starting to write the content or collecting the content for your topics, you must need to do some little search for a keywords. And remember that you ‘must not skip’ this step while starting a website. To research a keywords you must know, some of the useful sites for a keyword research…

Good Keywords

After completed your download. We can just enter our example keyword “weight loss” into the good keywords software.

Check the shown picture below, Good keywords will show the list of keywords related to the searching keyword. And the ‘count’ table will show that how many times the keyword has been searched previous months in overture.com search engine. To calculate the counts, just you need to multiply the counts by 8 to get the approximate results searched in the Google search engine.

The screenshot will show the counts for weight loss keyword in previous month is 817,038. Better DON’T start with the keyword weight loss.

You must ask, why should not be started? If the keyword has searched more number of times in Overture.com mean you need to face the competition to get the approximate results. While starting with this, it will be the right path for you. For beginning a new website and to start optimize, its good to start with a ‘long tail’ keyword. I will say you about this later.

Just see the competitors shown for this keyword “weight loss” in Google search engine.

If you are going to start with this keyword, you need to overcome with these 66 million websites… This will be the good goal to achieve it. But for beginners this will not be okay.

At the end of this lesson, you can also make target with the high traffic keywords like weight loss, but my opinion is always start with the less competition keyword. First just get some visitors and traffic with less competition keyword. Once your site got good traffic and then you can start optimizing with the high traffic keywords to get your targeted results in search engine.

Fine, let’s back to our example keyword to research…

If you scroll down, you will get the more keywords like “weight loss story“, “safe weight loss”, “free weight loss plan”,  and “weight loss picture”…

There are main keywords which we have start to target it.

After getting the list of keywords, you need to do Google to find how much traffic for the corresponding keyword is, how hard to optimize those keywords, how many sites are competing, etc…

Well… we can start with the keyword “weight loss story”

When you try to search this keyword in Google… you will get the # 1 ranking page is http://www.runwalkjog.com/weight_loss_success_story.htm, this is not a top level page.. meaning its just not an http://www.runwalkjog.com/

If the page ranked for the sub topics mean this is an good page optimization and from this we can know that your site is getting well optimized in Google. And we will get the immediate advantage with our homepage that is [www.yoursitename.com]… i will say you clearly why the homepage are getting easily ranked in the google more than the other sub pages.

while visiting that site you will also come to know that the Google Page Rank of 5…

i will say you the quick definition for Page Rank…. Page Rank is Google’s way of giving a specific value to how popular a website is. This will be based on number of links from other websites to your site.. This is just simply the other site connecting to your website with any one of the link. The more number of links you have, the higher page rank you will get. Page Rank is important for Google while ranking your site.

To check the Google Page Rank, you must be installed the Google toolbar in your browser…  you can get the free Google toolbar here – Google toolbar

The #1 ranking site for this keyword “weight loss story” has only the Google Page Rank of 5. This is an good result for us to get the page rank of 5 for this corresponding keyword. Keep in mind that to get higher page rank, only by getting the more number of links to your site. I will show you later, how to get more number of links connecting to your site in a week or two… and i will go into more deeply about the Google Page Rank.

The next step is we need to view our source code… To view our source code, just click “view” in the menubar and click “source” in the web browser.

Note: Source code is just the code for creating the webpages… You don’t need to know HTML, which is an programming language used to create an websites. You need to know some things when viewing the Page source…

This will show the text files for our website which is optimizing the “On page Optimization factors” for our site…

Note: The optimization has an 2 types of optimization, they are on page optimization and off page optimization. i will teach you about off page optimization in upcoming lessons.

After viewing the source code of this website, you need to look for few things…

Note: The easy way to identify the containing tags used in their site or blog is by editing through the notepad. Open it in Notepad and click “edit” to select the “find” option.

You need to just enter the corresponding tag you are looking for… For example… if we are looking for h1 header tag. The code for this tag is (<h1>, i.e. h1 with < before and > after h1). So you just need to enter the less than symbol before the h1 tag and greater than symbol after the h1 tag into your find textbox. If the tag is found, the notepad will highlight your searched text. If it is not, it will tell you it’s not found.

Whether or not they are placed the keyword “weight loss story” within the tags. We can check this by finding it in the page source using notepad. Most of them are not using the h1 header tag itself. And also another one is.

Whether or not they are not using the important keyword <title> tags. This is one of the reason, they are ranking for the keyword “weight loss story”. Their title is “weight loss stories” and they used the html code as,

< title >weight loss story stories< /title >

The title tag is just an tag which is used in the left top of the browser as just shown below:

Whether or not they not bolded, Italicized, Underlined the words, for the keyword “weight loss story” in the body of the blog or webpage. In our example, they have bolded the keyword “weight loss story” 4 times in their webpage.

Bolding is the option for doing only the important keywords, you should need to check twice and you must use it correctly. Note that they have bolded the keyword “weight loss stories” more than the keyword “weight loss story”. You need to look for both the singular and plural keywords.

The tags used for bolding is < b >, italics is < i >, for underline is < u >. Below you can see that i have made a search for < b > tag and got the results as “weight loss success stories”, but this long keyword contains all the keyword weight, loss, stories in the bold tags.

Whether or not they are using < alt > tag for images. In our example, we can find it easily because they were not used the images in their webpage. Adding images is the another best way to increase the page ranks, but the image should be inserted using the main keyword you are going to use. For example, we can insert the image and named as the weight-loss-story-picture1.jpg.

And the final important thing is, you need to place the main keyword in the beginning of the post and also at the end of the post. In our example, we no need to worry, because they have done it. We can also able to do this.

So, you have learned now how to optimize the “On page ranking factors” for the #1 ranked website.

In the very beginning i mentioned you that the keyword research is an important thing for building traffic to our site. Some of the keyword research sources are,
